Robert Caliendo

 
Mr. Caliendo’s practice focuses on all aspects of criminal defense, in both federal and state courts. He has represented clients in connection with a wide variety of matters, ranging from alleged organized crime cases to financial, health care, and real estate frauds. He has represented corporate and entertainment industry executives, and even fellow lawyers. In April of 2014, Mr. Caliendo was one of the attorneys who represented a lawyer in a public corruption case involving allegations of fraud and kickbacks in real estate development projects financed through HUD and the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.  Following a three week trial the defendant was acquitted on all charges. More recently, he was one of the attorneys who represented at trial in federal court a former New York City Police Officer accused of conspiring to rob drug dealers.
 
Robert Caliendo joined Sercarz & Riopelle, LLP in 2013 after practicing law for nearly a decade in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office. While there, he tried many complex and high profile cases.  In addition to his significant trial experience, he has briefed and argued significant appeals, and has conducted wide ranging investigations in conjunction with a variety of state and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutor’s offices, from wiretap cases to criminal investigations into misconduct by the New York City Police Department and New York City Department of Corrections.
 
Mr. Caliendo has lectured for attorneys on a variety of topics, and has guest lectured at Adelphi University on Long Island, and at the New York City Police Academy. He also participates in the Mentor Program and Alumni Admissions Board at his alma mater, Brooklyn Law School, from where he graduated cum laude. He is a member of the White Collar Crime Committee of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, whose mission is to promote excellence in criminal defense. He is also an active member of the New York Inn of Court, whose mission is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skills.
 
He is admitted to practice law in the Courts of New York State, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
